UFC Champion Amanda Nunes vs MMA Superstar Ronda Rousey? But when?

Written by A.G Lee

Two former women's bantamweight Champions did not wait around for Ronda Rousey to come back even though it would have been in their best interest career-wise and money-wise. But the new Champion Amanda Nunes seems to be going against that trend and it seems to be rubbing other fighters the wrong way we'll at least former champions that is.

Former champion Miesha Tate who lost the belt to Amanda Nunez at UFC 200 stated :

"I think, my personal opinion, as the champion you don't wait for people, you step up when you should," Tate said on The MMA Hour. "You should stay busy and do whatever, but it's her choice, it's her life, and she's probably being advised to wait. And I can't blame the girl. It's going to be a big fight, it'll be a big money fight. Financially, career-wise, it probably makes sense from a political side to wait.

"But you've got to balance that out, like, what are you in it for? Are you in it for the money or are you in it for doing ‘the smart thing' or are you passionate, driven, and you want to do what the ‘fighter' would do. So, it's not wrong either way. It's just personally, what I think, is to stay busy and prove that you're the champion, why you're the champion."

Could it be that Amanda Nunes really believes that the fight with Ronda Rousey will solidify her career and standing as the best women's bantamweight champion? Or does she feel that she might as well grab the money even if she loses the fight to Ronda Rousey?

But even all of that is still a hypothetical situation as no one still knows when Ronda Rousey will return back to the UFC. Even as good as in shape as she currently looks.

The former champion and MMA Superstar Ronda Rousey has been called out by all in the top three of her division and then also by new rising Star Cris Cyborg Santos. Who just recently made a case for being the domineering force of womens MMA in the dismantling of Lina Lansberg at UFC Fight Night 95 : Brasilia.

With all the challenges out there to face Dana White says that Ronda Rousey will get the title shot upon her return to the UFC regardless of her return date. And has the UFC has even hinted at Ronda Rousey coming back for the UFC 207 card on Dec 30 which puts the whole division on caution and makes the belt a valuable money prize for the time being rather than a status quo to be defended as a mark of excellence.

With all the options it's most likely that Ronda Rousey will take the title shot upon her return to the UFC organization regardless of some fans saying that avenging her loss to Holly Holm would be more of a career defining return than avoiding it.

But whether that's at the end of 2016 or next year 2017, does that mean that Amanda Nunes actually will sit on the belt even if it means holding the belt and not fighting any top contenders for the next 6 months or more? Sure seems like it
