Letourneau Plans to ruin the perception of the Underdog Role
MELBOURNE, Australia – UFC women’s strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau is no stranger to being the underdog, because she’s been counted out almost from the moment she started fighting.
“People don’t know my story, but I’ve been in this sport for quite a while,” Letourneau (8-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) told reporters on Thursday during an open workout in support of her UFC 193 pay-per-view co-headliner with Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), which takes place Saturday. “I was training in gyms where there was not even a locker (room) for girls. I was in the locker room with guys walking naked, and they didn’t care. They just wanted to make us go away. We were just a waste of time.”
