Ali Abdelaziz MMA manager of Justin Gaethje says that Justins Done with UFC if Leapfrogged by fighter Paddy Pimblett

Justin Gaethje, a key figure in the UFC lightweight division, has threatened to retire if passed over for a title shot against champion Ilia Topuria in favor of Paddy Pimblett. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, emphasized that Gaethje's word is unbreakable, and such a decision could end his UFC career amid ongoing speculation about Topuria's next defense.

Abdelaziz noted that only Arman Tsarukyan, after his fight with Dan Hooker on November 22, 2025, merits jumping ahead based on merit.

Gaethje holds a professional MMA record of 26-5-0, with a UFC record of 10-4, featuring notable wins over Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler, and Tony Ferguson. His striking prowess is evident in stats like 6.59 significant strikes landed per minute at 58% accuracy, while absorbing 7.18 per minute with 51% defense.

With 20 knockouts among his victories, Gaethje's aggressive style has earned him multiple Performance of the Night bonuses.

Gaethje's significance to the lightweight division lies in his ability to deliver thrilling, high-stakes fights that boost fan engagement and viewership. As a former interim champion and BMF titleholder, he exemplifies professionalism by taking tough matchups on short notice and elevating the division's competitiveness. His presence ensures exciting matchups, preventing the weight class from losing its dynamic appeal.

Paddy Pimblett, with a 23-3-0 MMA record and undefeated 7-0 in the UFC, brings entertainment value but faces scrutiny over opponent quality, with his last three foes holding a 0-13 combined record.

Pimblett's stats include 5.19 significant strikes per minute at 53% accuracy, absorbing 3.14 per minute with 42% defense, complemented by strong submission skills at 1.7 attempts per 15 minutes.

While his charisma draws crowds, Abdelaziz argues Gaethje's merit-based resume, including top-ranked status around No. 5, outweighs Pimblett's promotional appeal.

Should Gaethje retire, the UFC risks a major gap in the lightweight division, potentially reducing excitement under Topuria's reign and frustrating other contenders.

Abdelaziz calls for fairness in matchmaking, balancing business with earned opportunities to maintain fighter morale. Honoring Gaethje's contributions would sustain the division's vitality and fan loyalty.
