Thomas Almeida going after Big Game AKA Urijah Faber
Is current spotlight fighter Thomas Almeida (4-0 UFC) on a collision course with disaster after finally having his breakout moment? The searching bantamweight is definitely in the spotlight for a lot of fans as his last fight delivered in a really big way exciting the fans and also putting his supervisors on notice with his highlight knock out of Anthony Birchak (1-2 UFC). But for some reason it seems the fighter has a chip on his shoulder as he says many fighters and many fans still doubt him and he is ready to prove them wrong by challenging himself and also calling out Urijah Faber.
"I don't choose very much, but I think Faber would be a great challenge in my career," Almeida told Combate. "He's very good, he is famous and is good at wrestling. Many people say I haven't proven myself yet, so hopefully that would shut them up and everyone would see how well trained and confident I am. I'm a big fan of Faber and he's above me in the rankings."
"I'm beginning to get noticed, so people want to make a name for themselves out of me. The guy who takes away my invincibility will be remembered. But I don't think about that, I know defeat comes to every fighter. Nobody is unbeatable. My goal is to get the belt, losing or not, that's my focus, nothing changes in my head."
Yes the same fighter who only loses to former champions and in championship fights. With his last loss coming to Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 66. Which puts Urijah Faber in s unique situation where the fans still want to see him fight regardless if it's a championship fight or not. And with the pay days that he earns we are very sure that he does not mind it at all considering that the fights that he has that are non championship fights or not against former champions he really breaks a sweat. And in this situation Thomas Almeida falls into that category.
But looking at Thomas Almeida as more than a prospect does give him the right to call out somebody like Urijah Faber but does that mean that he should. Fighting somebody like Urijah Faber will give him a huge boost in recognition and rankings, but then again a loss also could set him back a far away distance that he really does not want at point in his career.
