Did UFC 273 Verify Khamzat Chimaev Legitimacy or Create More Doubts?

With UFC 273 in the history books MMA superstar Khamzat Chimaev unofficially headlining the championship double-header card Khamzat Chimaev has once again performed under the seemingly weightless spotlight.

A spotlight that sees him as one of the fastest rising MMA Superstars since former UFC 2 division champion Conor McGregor and the now retired and undefeated lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Sure there are other writing Superstars that MMA and fight fans are definitely keeping an eye on such as Sean O'Malley, Paddy Pimblett, Tom Aspinall, Ian Garry and such.

But by even UFC social media metrics Khamzat Chimaev hype seems to be at an all-time high along with the multitude areas of exposure in his social media push from the UFC and other factors such as blockasset with their current episodes of Smesh Bros along with their NFTs of Khamzat Chimaev and Darren till.

With all of these things going his way in his private performances of dominating his opponent and  taking less than ten strikes in all of his prior UFC fights combined why would this fight be a cause for concern?

Primarily is the jump in difficulty as Chimaev went from fighting fighters that were not in the top 10 of the welterweight rankings to fighting the number two ranked UFC welterweight fighter in Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.

With the fight drawing on past the first round ,Gilbert Burns being as elite and highly-ranked as he was was able to show the chinks in the armor talk of the MMA superstar.

Hitting Chimaev with multiple stunning shots and even a knock-down or two too, bloodying the highlight fighter and even causing a scare or two for the fans on the Chimaev hype train.

In this one singular fight Gilbert Burns was able to show why he was an elite welterweight fighter by personally destroying Chimaevs sterling record of having less than 5 absorbed strikes across multiple fights and also showing that he is not invincible.

Which are pretty big flaws that do not give much wiggle room for a belt in one of the divisions with a champion that is nigh invincible and seemingly unstoppable himself in the form of the streaking and undefeated Kamaru Usman.

Flawa that such a champion as Kamaru Usman would be able to exploit to even greater effect the same way he was able to with the former contender in Gilbert Burns and able to put him away with in the 3rd round of their fight at UFC 258.

With the UFC already looking for another way to promote Khamzat Chimaev, they are more than likely looking for him to fight a former contender as Usman is currently looking to be booked against the current #1 contender Leon Edwards.

The UFC will be able to test their newest superstar against the former UFC interim welterweight champion in Colby Covington which should fix the doubts of more hardcore fans considering the next step that fans on the Chimaev train might not be thinking about right now.
